Pesticide Standards

Our current high standards on pesticides safeguard people and our environment from any potential harm, and I firmly believe that these standards must not be relaxed in any new trade agreements.

I am assured that the Government shares my view, and will not compromise on our high food and environmental standards. The use of pesticides will only be permitted where the scientific assessments demonstrate that there is no danger of their use causing harm to people or the environment. Moreover, the Government is engaging with the agricultural sector in trade discussions, in order to ensure that the concerns of farmers and other parties are well represented to the Government.

As the EU transition period comes to an end, the UK will be able to decide its own regulations on pesticides. I support a scientific approach to pesticides, ensuring that we maintain our high standards and robust protections for people and the environment, and I am pleased that the Government agrees with this vision.
