Social care

I am pleased to report that the Queen’s Speech confirmed that proposals on social care reform will be brought forward in this Parliamentary session.

We all have a right to dignified care in old age. While four out of five people in care are looked after by good or outstanding organisations, more needs to be done to tackle the challenge of social care in an aging population. In particular, we must find a long-term funding solution.

The Government has a long-standing commitment to reform social care and build a sustainably funded system, and the pandemic has underlined the need for reform. I am looking forward to the Government publishing its plans during this Parliamentary session, and I am confident that we will build the same cross-party consensus on social care that we have in support of the NHS.
